Campaign update!

Nearly 3,000 of you signed this petition which was sent to the Planning Inspector to ask him to uphold the original decision by Tower Hamlets to refuse development on the site adjacent to the George Tavern in Stepney, East London.

Among the 3,000-odd signatures were those of Sir Ian McKellen, Plan B, Jo Whiley, and Ricky Wilson, and the members of London Grammar.

Hundreds of you have left touching comments highlighting just how important the George Tavern (and live music) is for so many of you.

The campaign was also positively covered across a range of newspapers, magazines and websites including the Evening Standard, NME, Time Out, local blog East London LinesTNT, and Daily Express.

The Planning Inspectorate have now stopped accepting comments and will spend the next few weeks and months considering their decision.

Thanks to everyone involved who signed, tweeted, blogged, and shared… you have proved to the powers that be just how important the George Tavern is for the musical, artistic and local communities.

We will, of course, keep you informed of any news as and when we receive it from the Planning Inspectorate…. and we’ll keep updating this campaign mini-site too with relevant info, pictures and more.

If you still want to help, then check out the ‘get involved’ pages to see what you can do!

On behalf of landlady Pauline, a heartfelt thank you to you all!

See you down the George for a pint!
