It’s been a while since we’ve been in touch but we’ve not had much to report. We’re still waiting for the planning process to take its course. We should have the result of the developers appeal in a few weeks.
We’ve been busy continuing the restoration of the venue, returning the building to its former glory.
The campaign continues to make the news. The Evening Standard ran another piece on the George and landlady Pauline was interviewed on LBC following it.
Campaign supporters Music Heritage UK wrote a piece for the Huffington Post looking at the issue more widely and how venues are being unnecessarily put under threat by a lack of common sense in our planning laws which of course featured our campaign. Why not post a comment to let people know what you think!
Last week, Bristol’s new music venue the Fleece took to social media to let people know about a proposed development adjacent to their venue which bares an uncanny resemblance to what’s happening at the George.
They’re aiming to get 100,000 signatures so this issue is debated in parliament. This could be the breakthrough needed for music venues up and down the country and for a return to common sense where property developments and music venues are concerned.
Thanks for reading and if you want another way to show your support for The George then see you down there for a pint soon!
