George Tavern loses at High Court… but the battle continues

The George Tavern’s High Court appeal of the Planning Inspectorate’s decision to allow the building of flats in close proximity to the established pub and music venue has unfortunately been rejected by the Judge.

Landlady Pauline and her family are currently applying to appeal this decision.

As you’ll no doubt realise, this continued legal challenge comes at a cost and Pauline and her family are grateful to everyone who contributed to their crowdfunding campaign or bought a t-shirt. Together we have raised over £3,000! On behalf of the George Tavern, we’d like to thank you for your support.

If you haven’t already bought a t-shirt and would like to do so, then please visit the George’s online shop, or pop into to buy a shirt from behind the bar (new colours are now available, as well as a limited edition Jack Daniels Save the George shirt!). All funds raised go towards the George’s legal fund.

Pauline’s efforts at restoring the George Tavern to its former glory have been recognised by Historic England (formerly English Heritage). Pauline has been nominated for a “Heritage Angel” award. Voting is now over, but we’ll find out whether she’s won the award at a ceremony in London on September 7th.
